Personal Facts and Details
Notes

Note
The family came from Grodna and their name was Yachas - they were cousins of the Abramsky family from Volpe ‎(about 40 km away)‎. Possibly they were the family of Shimon Shmaryahu's brother. Much of the family travelled to the USA via Ellis Island,‎( or possibly its predecessor)‎, the rest went to Canada.

When some Yachas members arrived they were not too happy with their name and decided to adopt the name of their cousins, Abramsky. Many settled in the Boston area and again decided on a name more appealing to their New England and Irish neighbours, picking the name Abramson.

They had their own "family society" that met yearly to discuss family matters and help those less fortunate ‎(Mort's father Harry told Mort this)‎. Today there are about 50 families in the phone book and most of the others are buried in and around Boston.

Samuel was married twice. His first wife, whose name we do not know, had four children by him: Joe, Louis, Geisha and Mollie. When his wife died, Samuel married again, this time his first wife's sister Jennie, and had 8 more children:
i)Hyman who married Etta, the sixth child of Morris Yachas and Rebecca Abramson, Samuel's sister - ie a cousin of sorts. He is buried in Baker Street Cemetery
‎(ii)‎Morris who had 3 children, Annie, a secretary; Jules ‎(who had a furniture store in Pembroke)‎. Jules had two daughters: one was Fay who married twice, first Stanley Lewis, by whom she had a daughter, Alyssa, and then Terry Reid who adopted Alyssa; and Samuel, whose son Alan is a Rabbi.
‎(iiiSamuel -who married Gussie and had no children (? in Grodna)‎
‎(iv)‎Clara who married and also had no children ‎(?in Grodna)‎

Joe and Louis Abramson were in Kingston in 1891 to meet Mort's grandfather Joseph Abramsky when he arrived - they were the reason Joseph Abramsky did not go to South America but went to Canada instead. They knew the wholesale market and helped Joseph get stock to get his retail establishment started

Never close to Canadian Abramsky’s - except around 1900 when Mort’s grandmother Chaia ‎(Novack)‎ died giving birth to his father. Two year’s later Chaia’s widower, Joseph turned to closest family, Louis and Joseph Abramson ‎(who had met him in 1891 when he arrived here with no English)‎. Joseph married Louis and Joe’s sister Gussie ‎(Geisha)‎ ‎(Gisha)‎ Abramson in Kingston. See stories and pictures
